In August, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy announced it is seeking nationwide examples of "active learning" strategies in K-12 settings that promote deeper engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, as part of the STEM for All initiative. Education Daily’s Emily Brown spoke with MƒA Deputy Director Courtney Allison about putting a spotlight on the importance of teachers in the conversation:
"I'm hopeful that we'll see a lot of turning to teachers as professionals because they have enormous expertise and experience that can be built upon for things like this," said Courtney Allison, deputy director for Math for America, referring to the White House announcement. Leveraging teacher expertise and experience, she believes, inspires "really deep dynamic professional development."
