The MƒA Equity Webinars Series invites nationally recognized educators to share ideas that support equity within STEM. Following an interactive presentation by the speaker, Master Teachers have the opportunity to discuss how these ideas might be applied in their own school environments in small groups. Teachers from MƒA, other Master Teacher programs, and people interested in learning more about MƒA are invited to attend.
Black males’ mathematics experiences have gained traction in the literature. The majority of this scholarship has employed a critical race theory (CRT) perspective. Discussions about CRT have entered mainstream discourse and these debates have lasting implications for mathematics teachers and their students. In this talk, Dr. Christopher Jett draws upon his critical race praxis to provide an overview of scholarship regarding the plight of Black males in mathematics. He also shares evidence-based practices and recommendations that positively influence and ultimately empower Black male students in mathematics contexts.
