The MƒA Equity Webinars Series invites nationally recognized educators to share ideas that support equity within STEM. Following an interactive presentation by the speaker, Master Teachers have the opportunity to discuss how these ideas might be applied in their own school environments in small groups. Teachers from MƒA, other Master Teacher programs, and people interested in learning more about MƒA are invited to attend.
Each of us has a set of moral and ethical values about teaching that help shape what we do in the classroom. These pedagogical commitments, particularly those about justice and equity and what it means to be a teacher, have been shaken after a year like no other. In this talk, Dr. Darryl Yong will help teachers develop a continuing practice of self-reflection to cultivate greater alignment between what they value and what they do in their professional lives.
Dr. Darryl Yong is a professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. He helped found and continues to help lead Math for America Los Angeles. His scholarship touches on the retention and professional development of secondary school mathematics teachers, effective teaching practices in undergraduate STEM education, and equity, justice, and diversity in higher education.
