The MƒA Equity Webinars Series invites nationally recognized educators to share ideas that support equity within STEM. Following an interactive presentation by the speaker, Master Teachers have the opportunity to discuss how these ideas might be applied in their own school environments in small groups. Teachers from MƒA, other Master Teacher programs, and people interested in learning more about MƒA are invited to attend.
The discussion around equity has become more mainstream in the last few years, but education has lagged behind in understanding equity as a core tenet for our work. In this presentation, Jose Vilson explores topics around equity, pedagogy, and STEM with an interactive Q&A.
José Luis Vilson is a veteran educator, writer, speaker, and activist in New York City, NY. He is the author of This Is Not A Test: A New Narrative on Race, Class, and Education, has spoken about education, math, and race for a number of organizations and publications, including The New York Times, The Guardian, TED, El Diario / La Prensa and The Atlantic. He's a National Board Certified teacher, a Math for America Master Teacher, and the executive director of EduColor, an organization dedicated to race and social justice issues in education. He is currently doing his doctoral studies at Teachers College, Columbia University with a focus on sociology and education.
