Associate Director, Scientific Outreach & Partnerships

Uzma joined MƒA in the summer of 2018. She is Associate Director, Scientific Outreach and Partnerships at M­ƒA. She works with teachers, scientists, researchers, and pedagogues to build a diverse and robust professional development program. Uzma also works closely with the New York State Master Teacher Program, the Simons Foundation, and local and national universities and institutions to foster scientific partnerships and elevate the impact of MƒA. 

Before MƒA, Uzma taught biology and AP Biology for 18 years at Baruch College Campus High School in Manhattan. She was an MƒA Master Teacher, facilitating workshops and serving as a mentor to MƒA Early Career Teachers. During her teaching career Uzma also received several fellowships including those with Earthwatch, Teachers for Global Classrooms, Fund for Teachers, and the Columbia Science Teacher Program, for which she now serves on the advisory board. Uzma continues to support new and developing teachers as a supervisor in the Teaching Residency at Teachers College program.

Uzma earned a B.A. in Biology and Religion from the University of Rochester, an M.A. in Secondary Science Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an M.A. in Public Administration from Baruch College. She lives in Queens and loves to travel near and far to explore the world’s diversity and natural beauty.
