Theories of Teaching and Learning
The MƒA model is informed by core theories about teaching and learning. MƒA uses the Teaching for Robust Understanding (TRU) Framework to foster a shared vision and language for high-quality instruction among teachers in its program.
The TRU framework states five dimensions of classroom instruction that are necessary and sufficient to help students become deep and flexible thinkers in STEM. These dimensions can be adapted for teacher learning environments and characterize important aspects of MƒA workshops and best practices for facilitation.
For more information on the TRU framework and for resources to apply these dimensions in your own classrooms, see https://truframework.org/.
What We Talk About When We Talk About Teaching
At MƒA, we believe that the best way to improve education is to get expert teachers together. We think that when teachers share good ideas with one another both they and their students benefit.
But sharing good ideas about teaching is harder than it sounds. Teachers - especially in New York City - have to communicate across many differences. Fortunately, there is a common language that can help.
