How Hedge Fund Billionaire James Simons Is Changing Math Education

In the News | April 24, 2017

Forbes reporter Michela Tindera spoke with MƒA Founder Jim Simons prior to this past weekend’s National Math Festival in Washington, D.C. In the published interview, Dr. Simons spoke about his passion for mathematics, education, and philanthropy, while sharing how MƒA is continually improving the profession for teachers themselves. He says:

“You make the job better, pay more, have better hours. What we've done in Math for America is indeed make the job better. We pay people a stipend on top of their regular teaching salaries, and we created a community of highly skilled, professional teachers, and they stay in the field. They don't change, but turnover is very high in general in math and science teachers. But it's not high in MƒA’s core, which today in New York City is 1,000, which is 10% of the math and science teachers in New York public schools are in our core.”
