Adapting Standards Aligned Living Environment Genetics Unit Using the 5E Model

Join us as we focus on Living Environment curriculum by the New Visions Public School Network written by teachers for teachers following the 5E model. All lessons are NYS and common core aligned. We will work together to review lesson plans for the genetics unit using protocols[+] Read More and sharing ideas for adapting to different classrooms. You will walk away with free curriculum and have an opportunity to digest and work through the lessons in groups so we can think of how to meaningfully put them into practice. Adapting Text for Struggling Readers

In math and science classrooms, interacting with and eliciting information from text often becomes a barrier to student success. In this workshop, teachers will explore various strategies on how to make texts accessible for students by adapting them through modification and the[+] Read More use of scaffolds. Afterwards, they will compare adapted and unadapted texts and will work in groups to adapt a text using a specified lens. We will then look at samples of modified science and math texts and consider various scaffolds we can provide our students. The goal of this workshop is for teachers to walk away with a variety of text adaptation strategies they can use in their science and math classrooms.
