Professional Development Resources

Each year over 1,000 teachers participate in a powerful fellowship through MƒA. As part of their fellowship they come together for professional development co-created and developed with MƒA staff. These learning opportunities provide a unique way for teachers to build knowledge while forming deep professional bonds.

Through over a decade of work with NYC public school teachers we have developed a set of structures to support teachers and build a community of learning at MƒA. Whether you are looking to learn how to maximize the impact of a one-time session or delve into a longer course of study, teacher-led professional development can be trans-formative. Read and watch below to find out more about the power of the MƒA community.

Professional Learning Team (PLT)

Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) are small teams of teachers, co-facilitated by MƒA Master Teachers, who meet monthly to collaboratively learn, investigate, and implement best practices.

Mini-Course

MƒA Mini-courses are larger courses taught by MƒA Master Teachers as well as experts from the fields of math, science, and education, who meet regularly over the course of a few weeks. The goal of a mini-course is to introduce and engage MƒA teachers at the cutting edge of their content area and/or pedagogical practice.

Extended Length courses meet regularly over the course of several months and allow teachers to do sustained work together. These courses involve deep inquiry and build lasting relationships between participants. Extended Length courses feature experts from outside academic institutions paired with MfA teachers to co-facilitate. Like mini-courses, they engage MƒA teachers at the cutting edge of their content area and/or pedagogical practice.

Single Session Workshop

Single session workshops are one-time opportunities for experts from the MƒA Master Teacher community as well as outside experts from the fields of math, science, and education to expose teachers to a new tool or idea and model how it can be used in the classroom. Often single session workshops spark a new interest for a teacher and influence them to find deeper learning through another MƒA course.
